A Royal-size (156 × 234 mm) hardcover of 320 pages with a rounded spine. Set the size and pages, add front, spine and back artwork, export.
A hardcover is built around a case: two greyboard covers and a spine strip, wrapped in one printed, laminated sheet, with the text block glued in by its endpapers. The boards overhang the pages by a few millimetres, the squares, which is why a hardcover's closed size is bigger than its trim size.
Rounding the spine lets the block open flat and gives the shelf profile readers know; the flat-spine option is the photobook and notebook style.
The spine print area is the one to proof: it is what a bookshop shelf shows.
Round for novels and most trade books; flat for photobooks, notebooks and thin hardcovers under about 10 mm.
